The major Japaneses dress shirt manufacturers-Nisshinbo, Toybo, Shikibo, Kanebo, and Fuji Spinning-operate integrated manufacturing processes, from yarn spinning to weaving and finishing. Due to the rising value of the yen, these manufacturers have been forced to drop their prices, resulting in significant losses. Although the increasing value of the yen is expected to be short term, some of the major dress shirt manufacturers have begun to reduce their production and wuwpend their integrated producion of certain bleached or peice dyed cotton fabrics. In an attempt to regain profitability, some manufacturers are targeting their no iron dress shirts are foreign markets. Nisshinbo is selling a cotton/polyester blend fabric that is finished with a liquid ammonia processing method. Shikibo offers a resin treated cotton/polyester blend for no iron dress shirts. Nisshinbo is expected to introduce a 100 percent coton no iron fabric for dress shirts.
