Apparel Heated with Textile Heating Elements.

Fabric heating elements, such as heating packs, can be used in protective clothing. A conducting woven fabric with a specific resistance no higher than 0.02 ohm per meter is ideal for the construction of heat elements. The physical behavior of the heating element can be describe using Ohm's Law. An evaluation of heating packs examined tha problem of creating an appropriate distrubution of temperature on the outside of the apparel. A model of the body-apparel-evironment system was used to design the prototype apparel. tests confirmed the assumptions of the model and verified the effectiveness and safety of the protective apparel. 12 refs.
