An important characteristic of layered apparel fabrics is 'turn of the cloth': when layered an dseamed fabrics are floded over, the outer layer must bigger than the inner one to completely cover it. For the home sewer, the most likely locations for turning troubles are collars, cuffs, and lapels. Several suggestions to compensate for turn of the cloth are given. To ensure that the turn of the cloth does not distort the collar and lapel corner points, the home sewer must cut the outer fabric layer wider, using the weight of the fabric to judge the proper distance. For example, when using light weight apparel fabrics the home sewer should offset the edges of the outer layer by one-sixteenth inch.
