A review of home sewing techniques for gossamer scarves and other reversible fabrics focuses on techniques that use regular sewing thread and ordinary yarn. Most of the techmiques involve stitching the scarf on a sater soluble stabilizer that is dissolved away when the scarf is complete. By varying the type of stitching patten, yarn layout, and thread color, the home sewer can create plaid, open lace, knit gauze, or chain mail effects. Suggestions are given for choosing scarf shapes; selecting materials, including sewing threads, stabilizers, embroidery hoops, and sewing machine needles; and maintaining proper machine tension.
