Water and Energy Saving in Continuous Carpet Dyeing.

The main points of water and energy consumption on a continuous carpet dyeing range are prewashing, presteaming, botton dyeing, printing, dye application, steaming, washing, and drying. Dyring consumes the greatest amount of energy, followed in level of energy consumption by steaming, washing, prewashing, and presteaming. Energy for drying can be reduced by using a perforated drum dryer in a circular tenter frame configuration, by controlling gthe ventilating fan rotation speed, and by heat capture and recycling. Dyeing and washing consumes the most water. Water can be conserved by optimizing dyein gprocesses for the lowest possible liquor losses and by using washing machines that reuse water. Perhaps the most improtant step in water and energy conservation is the use of an effective process control system. 3 refs.
