Influence Of Sewing Factors On The Characteristics Of Blind Stitch Seams.

An experiment quantiifed the influence of sewing factors on the charcateristics of blind stich seams by focusing on three parameters: needle penetration, needle force during penetration, and seam strength. Fabric samples included wool, nylon, rayon, cotton, polyester/rayon, and wool/nylon types. Results indicated that the amount of needle penetration, expressed as that value I, was affected by both sewing conditions and fabric properties. Multiple regression analysis calcuated mean values of I from various subparamenter, indluding location of the ridge forming disc and fabric thckness, cover factor, weight, and bending rigidity. Based on the results, the researchers assumed a linear relationship between I and the needle force during penetration. A Weibull distribution appoximated the strength of the latter.
