Yellowing of white and pastel shade end-product testils has increased with the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere. Cotton, rayon, polyamide and polyester garments and fabrics in polyethlene bags, and blouses with contacting polyurethane shouler pieces, all yellow during storage. This is due to the presence of phenolic derivatives (preservatives, antioxidants, etc.) and of oxidizable aromatic amines. The fiber affinity of the phenolic derivatives is higher with cellulose and polyamide than with polyester.
