The use of cellulases to obtain various finishing for jeans is discussed. Cellulases are particularly sutiable for stonewashing denim dyed with indigo since the dyestuff barely penetrates the fibres. Characteristics of commercial cellulases and the varied surface appearance obtainable using them are outlined. Bleaching, softening, tinting, overdyeing and treatment to obtain a peach-skin effect are described.
