Wilhelm Becker Tuchfabrik uses a semiautomatic production line to manufacture men's and women's apparel fabrics. Materials handling equipment facilitates materials flow in the weaving, mending, and dispatch departments. Intermediate storage locations utilize stackable boxes for fabrics, yarns, and warp beams. An adequate number of yarn carriers is always available for yarn and piece dyeing. Disposal of waste occurs without impeding material flow. Fabric inspection stations at preliminary, intermediate, and final production stages ensure product quality. A central computer coordinates the entire production process. Bar code labels track the progress of yarns and fabric pieces throughout the production facility. A computer aided design system transmits warping and weaving instructions to looms. Bar codes contain data that specify the conditions for such finishing procedures as scouring, drying, shearing, and brushing. In the shipping department, the computer automatically generates such documents as delivery notes, materials symbols, and invocies.
