Many apparel manufacturing plants employ computer controlled grading systems that are faster, more accurate, more reliable, and produce more consistent results than manual grading. However, conventional computer controlled grading systems still depend on the manualevaluation of grade criteria. In the context of quick response manufacturing, this is increasingly unsatisfactory. Part One of a three part series of articles on the AutoGrader, which is capable of heuristically deriving grade criteria for adapted apparel patterns, introduces the 'grade rule data file' concept. The AutoGrader transforms three dimensional body measurements into two dimensional coordinates for direct computer drafting. 6 refs.
