Kato Sewing Machine Company based in Nagoya, recently introduced the Model ALC-500 laser cutting machine. The ALC-500 incorporates a 50 watt carbon dioxide laser and has an effective cutting area of 500 x 1600 millimeters. The ALC-500 cuts paper, wood, fabric, polyurethane foam rubber, aluminum, plastic, film, and artificial leather with equal facility. Its cutting speed can be varied from 50 to 500 millimeters per second. The ALC-500 is microprocessor controlled and contains an RS-232C serial interface that can link it with computer aided design systems.
