An experiment employed a tension control device to characterize the effect of sewing parameters on the frequency and magnitude of seam pucker in light weight apparel fabrics used for tailored women's wear. Tests focused on quantifying the relationships among four factors: the fabric coefficient of friction, the stitching speed, the sewing machine thread tension, and the sewing machine needle penetration force. 17 refs.
