The Vari-O-Matic Machine Corporation, based in Ueda, recently unveiled its Model VK-3 automatic hemming machine for curtain and drapery fabrics. The VK-3 double-double chain stitch sewing machine hems home furnishings fabrics at a rate of 12.5 meters per minute. According to Vari-O-Matic, mill trials report an average output of 50 rolls of drapery cloth per machine per day. The VK-3 accommodates fabric widths ranging from 460 to 2000 millimeters. Hemmed fabrics are folded by an optional swing stacker. The VK-3 is microprocessor controlled and contains an auxiliary device that monitors upper and lower thread breaks. Additional features include a maximum stitching speed of 3,500 rpm, a maximum stitch length of 4.5 millimeters, and a maximum hemming width of 15 millimeters.
