A profile of Donini International, a leading Italian drycleaning machinery manufacturer, reveals that perchloroethylene solvent will continue to play a major role in that company's machines. Although legislative changes in some countries have led other machinery manufacturers to investigate alternatives to perchloroethylene, officials at Donini claim that neither hydrocarbon nor aqueous processing systems offer a suitable and complete alternative. A new addition to Donini's line of perchloroethylene machines is the cool perchloroethylene process, developed in conjunction with the chemical company Biar. Although initialy designed for the industrial degreasing and scouring of leather garments, the cool perchloroethylene process may have optential applications in smaller drycleaning machines for processing F-labeled garments. Donini also manufactures the Azzurra drycleaning machine series with the Pura carbon recovery system, the competitively priced Viwa series, and the Micraclean machine, a compact drycleaning unit meant to replace narrow configuration CFC 113 machines.
