Development of ordour absorbing pharmaceutical wound dressing and tacky mat for operation theatre application

Two products for the field of medical textiles have been developed at VJTI in Bombay. An odour-absorbing pharmaceutical dressing using alginate fibres made from seaweed is formed by needle punching together the calcium alginate nonwoven fabric with another nonwoven of 50/50 polyester/viscose rayon. The second product presented, the tacky mat, is for stopping foot-borne contamination of a controlled atmosphere. Production involves twelve layers of polyester needlepunched fabric with one layer of leno fabric in the middle.
