As competition in the weekend casualwear market increases, Pepe is producing two new color palettes each season to attract 15 to 25 year old consumers. Pepe's cyber denim is laminated with polyvinyl chloride for a smooth, shiny surface on the outside and cotton on the inside. A similar process using nylon backed by cotton is a top seller in designer jeans collections from lceberg, W&<, and Byrne. Other uncoventional fabrics for jeans include primary colored toweling and ripstop nylon, soft terry toweling, and vivid coated cottons for matte effect. Disel offers velvet jeans, as well as needlecord in sky blue and hot orange. Go Jeans is marketing burgundy and deep green velvet, and sky blue and stone baby cord. Mass market jeans are available in new safari shardes, such as yellowed corn, golden sand, slate blue and slate green. Matt surfaces and light weight Tencel fabrics are being promoted for the 1996 summer retail season.
