Researchers quantitatively evaluatd the effects of the mechanical properties of sewing threa diameter and stitch length on seam stiffness, rigidity, softness, and drape coefficient in bleached kimono sheeting. Adhesive bonded seams were most rigid. Machine sewn seams showed decreasing bending and shearing rigidity and increasing softness as stitch length and sewing thread diameter decreased. Machine sewn seams were softest. Hand sewn seams were least rigid, Researchers used mechanical and surface property data to evaluate seam stiffness. 14 refs.
