Visual Feature of Textile Design. Part 3: Evaluation by Using a Genetic Algorithm

To improve the use of past textile designs as a resource for current design projects, researchers investigated databased search strategies that accommodate visual design features. Researchers examined the correspondence between the subjective feeling of plasticity and objective spatial frequencies. Textile designs that are assessed as exhibiting strong three dimensionality are simuilar to those that consist of lower spatial frequency components. Low spatial frequency components, therefore, may serve as a subjective searching term. The introduction of a genetic algorithm increases the efficiency of processing time. 9 refs.
