The range of surface textures in garments that have been prepared for dyeing is so very wide that a given dye in a given concentration on a given fiber may produce an almost infinite number of shade depths or hues. In veiw of the strong physiological and psychological influences that color has on consumers of textile products, it is important that those factors which may alter the consumer's perception of color with regard to garment-dyed textiles must not be ignored. The present study reviews some of the reasons why light is reflected differently from different textile surfaces and attempts to relate the findings to observed effects in garment-dyed textiles.
