Forecasting seam shrinkage in linen garments

The effect of laundering on seam shrinkage in linen garments is discussed. Results reveal that operational shrinkage after eight washes is almost twice as great as seam shrinkage after one wet treatment. Seams produced with reinforced sewing threads shrink less. Seams in the warp direction exhibit the greatest shrinkage; the shrinkage decreases with an increase in the angle, and the minimum shrinkage is observed in the weft direction.
