This article describes a way of disposing of protective medical garments and other healthcare products, such as linens, drapes and towels which has been inveted by Isolyser. The garments are made from thermoplastic polyvinyl alcohol which can be dissolved in water at temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius. This way the garment or fabric can be dissolved after use and the resultant effluent disposed of. The company suggests disposal in a hot water bath or washing machine dedicated to solubilizing such products, with ultimate disposal through the sewer system, thereby lessening the current burden on congested landfil sites.
