AUTOCAD, a general purpose computer aided design (CAD) and drafting software package, offers many benefits for apparel design. The CAD software features more than 140 commands for pattern designing, grading, and marker planning. A system for shirt pattern designing with AUTOCAD involves selecting a suitable pattern scale, determining the seam allowance, front pattern drafting, back pattern drafting, yoke pattern drafting, collar and band pattern drafting, sleeve pattern drafting, and cuff sleeves and pocket pattern drafting. AUTOCAD permits common graded pattern drafting and individualized sizing. Before using AUTOCAD for marker planning, users should note fabric width, fabric design, apparel requirements, desired sizes, number of pieces to be marked, quantity, and delivery date.
