Thermophysiological comfort is critical to outdoor apparel worn in various environmental conditions. Unlike environmental conditions and human physiology, the apparel system can be altered to provide maximum comfort to the wear. The development of waterproof breathable fabrics has generated considerable interest in the outdoor apparel market. These fabrics are claimed to provide maximum thermophysiological comfort. These fabrics often incorporate polytetrafluoroethylene or a hydrophili laminate instead of the polyurethane or wax used in conventional fabrics. Fick's law is used to measure and compare the effectiveness of these waterproof breathable fabrics with conventional outdoor fabrics.
