A method of forming a fibrous blanket comprises: forming a tubular, foraminous backing sheet between a rotary fiberizer disc and an annular suction chamber encircling the rotary fiberizer; producing fibres with the rotary fiberizer so that they collect on the inner surface of the tubular, foraminous backing sheet; pulling the backing sheet clear of the suction chamber; continuing to collect the fibres directly on an inner, foraminous surface of the suction chamber; and pulling the tubular blanket of fibres downstream so that it continues to be formed without the tubular, foraminous backing sheet.
