the report shows 1987 census of manufactures statistics for establishments classified in each of the following industries: women's and children's underwear and nightwear; brassieres, girdles, and allied garments; hats, caps, and millinery; girls', children's, and infants' dresses, blouses, and shirts; and girls', children's, and infants' outerwear, n.e.c. the industry statistics (employment, payroll, cost of materials, value of shipments, inventories, etc.) are reported for each establishment as a whole. aggregates of such data for an industry reflect not only the primary activities of the establishments but also their activities in the manufacture of secondary products as well as their miscellaneous activities (contract work on materials owned by others, repair work, etc.)
