the report describes the results of a research project designed to assess the possibility of employing heat forming and heat sealing techniques in the manufacture of clothing. both the heat molding and heat sealing of several synthetic fabrics and their blends with cotton proved to be successful from both technical and aesthetic viewpoints. this was accomplished for a variety of garment shapes for which the molding and seaming were shown to induce the shapes in a fraction of the time that would have been necessary using traditional cut-and-sew methods. moreover, it was demonstrated that these heat forming methods could be used to induce permanent contours into the fabric with no deterioration in the cloth even after repeated washings and dryings. at the same time no distortions of imprinted designs or colors are observed
