a garment is require to protect the wearer from the effects of cb agents. this garment must be compatible with the protective hood, gloves, socks, boots, and mask. the garment must be suitable for wear while performing all normal combat operations and must be compatible with existing and planned clothing and equipment. the soviets and soviet equipped forces are well trained and equipped to conduct both offensive and defensive chemical warfare. they possess large stockpiles of nerve, blister, blood, and choking agents and are capable of disseminating these, using both air and ground weapons the current cb protective suit is inadequate to provide protection against such a threat. it has inadequate resistance to wetting, does not provide protection for an adequate resistance once challenged, and is too hot. because it cannot be laundered or decontaminated, large stockpiles are required to support sustained operations in a cb environment
