the author gives a resume of the mechanism of pigment adhesion to textile fabrics. the different tendencies for fabrics to attract dirt is determined mainly by the size of the dispersion and polar forces between the fabric and the soil particles. these forces can be reduced on a technical scale by the creation of porous structures, the application of sufficient amounts of cationic surfactants which lead to an $xi$ potential of zero and, in the case of polyester fibers, through alkali treatment. to describe the laundering mechanism, a simple thermodynamic model is used. it was possible to prove that the laundering effect of surfactants is proportional to their free standard adsorption enthalpy on the fiber in the case of polyester and viscose fibers. in contrast to polyester fibers, a definite laundering effect is achieved with viscose fibers, using pure water. 17 refs. in german
