cotton and polyethylene terephthalate (pet)/cotton blend fabrics were independently stained with chocolate milk (cocoa), tomato sauce and grape juice. a study was made of different cleaning conditions for removal of these stains. the results generally indicated were (1) aqueous laundering in the presence of synthetic detergent caused complete removal of the stains used, (2) perchloroethylene not only failed to remove stains from both fabrics, but rather enhanced the stain strength, (3) perchloroethylene/water caused removal of a significant amount of grape juice stain differences in ease of stain removal were explaind on the basis of differences in ability of stain particles to aggregate and migrate to the fabric surfaces. 14 refs
