Research conducted jointly between the Reutlingen College of Technology and H. Stoll integrated several making-up operations into the flat knitting machine. The comprehensive configuration for a complete product consists of preliminary stages and transition courses up to the tubular waistband; knitting the tubular waistband for reglan sleeves and body; knitting the tubes for sleeves and body in rib fabric; joining sleeves and body into a tube with subsequent narrowing of the arm and body tube; knitting the neck gusset; knitting the tubular collar; and linking off the collar end stitches. Lower total production costs and the elimination of many labor intensive processes render the complete garment production price lower than that of comparable conventionally knit garments.
