In 1998 Sam Vollenweider, of Horgen, Switzerland, report that more of their Peerless shearing machines are being sold to the knitwear industry thant the traditional wool-fabric manufacturing trade. Manufacturers seeking to achieve the best shearing results with brushed and tricot fabrics, and knitwear in jacquard designs are cited as reasons for this.
