An expanded model for textile comfort studies using Human Perception Analysis (HPA) is described. HPA is a sensory evaluation technique using peer language to visualize human responses to stimulation. The perceptions and sensations of humans can be detected by using specially selected descriptors in a rating sheet. The rating sheet, with five rating periods, is comprised of four sections: comfort descriptors, a McGinnis thermal scale, comments on uncomfortable locations, and additional sensations with five rating periods. The 48 comfort descriptors are placed in alphabetical order on the rating sheet, and they are grouped into 7 major categories. The technique was proven effective in quantifying subjective measurements in garment comfort studies. 32 refs.
