The increased complexity of forming fabrics, papermaking materials, and the paper making process put added demands on the fabric cleaning process. The contaminants found in forming fabrics can be placed in four classifications: solvent extractables, acid extractables alkaline extractables, and ash. The most often used cleaning method is the continuous shower. The flooded nip shower and the oscillating needle shower are two optional cleaning techniques. Water is the most common cleaning agent, but chemical agents are also used. 9 refs.
