A research program at the Georgia Institute of Technology sought to develop an automated, in-process quality control system to detect sewing defects as they occurred. Phase I of the research was concerned with identifying common types of sewing defects. Phase II identified the causes of defects and examined potential real-time fault detection methods. Phases III of the research program implemented defect detection in the laboratory.
