Ozone is being used by launderers in the wash cycle to enhance a detergent's washing performance and to reduce laundering costs. Using ozone turns wash water into an oxidizing bleach and improves the quality of the wastewater produced from laundering. Launderers using ozone can reuse a good deal of their wastewater, consume less fuel, and reduce the number of wash cycles. Ozone Technologies has produced an ozone generator that can be used with any type of washer. Although the company has discovered that ozone is not as effective as chlorine bleach on tough food stains, tests are being conducted to determine if ozone will enhance the performance of such bleaches.
