Advantages of using hemp and flax fibers for knit fabrics include their high tenacity, desirable aesthetic appearance, high absorption capacity, cost savings, and environmentally friendly production. Potential disadvantages include low elongation at break, high flexural strength, yarn irregularity, unevenness, lower yarn density, low crease resistance, heavy drape, and low shape stability. Careful selection of knitting machines, yarn types, knitting conditions, and finishing conditions effectively compensates for these potential problems. Yarns should have sufficient lubricity to ensure moderate yarn friction. Machines should provide moderate tension at the yarn guide, sufficient contraction of the knit, and slightly lower knitting speeds. Favorable ambient conditions also improve processing performance.
