Update of indigo denim washing

The manufacture of simple denim jeans requires hundreds of litres of water, a large amount of electricity and a substantial quantity of steam and labour. This article presents an efficient method of washing denim garments with Bio Routes, a method which reduces process time, consumes less water and avoids conventional toxic chemicals, thus minimising effluent load. Biowashes involve enzymatic treatment of materials and four different cellulases are available for the stonewashing process: Bactosol CA Liq. Conc,; Bactosol JN Liq. Conc.; Bactosol JN Pwd.; and Bactosol JA Gran. The effects of these enzymatic treatments on denim are discussed.
