Consumer demand for environmentally friendly products has a huge impact on business. Yet the fashion industry is faced with a catch-22 situation-consumers are not prepared to pay a premium for eco-fashion; the price of eco-fashion will decrease only when more manufacturers start producing it, which is unlikely to happen until there is an increase in demand. In this article it is argued that consumer education is the key to promoting eco-fashion-but assumptions that natural fibres are inherently environmentally friendly should be avoided.
