The children's apparel industry is changing rapidly as more brandname and private label companies enter the industry. Such lifestyle companies as DKNY, Nautica, and Tommy Hilfiger entered the industry seeking younger and younger consumers. Designers and manufacturers realized that children older than two or three influence adult consumer decisions. Children five and up are active consumers, influenced by movies and sports, who refuse to wear apparel they do not like. Mothers make the consumer decisions for babies and toddlers and competitive companies must respond to mother's changing tastes. Such successful manufacturers as Oshkosh B' Gosh rely on information technology to provide demand planning and forecasting and drive their distribution processes.
