Remedies are given for yarn displacement, excessive thread tension, and uneven ply feeding--the three main causes of seam puckering. Yarn displacement puckering can be minimized by using the smallest thread and needle size possible, using a heavy thread on stress seams, and reducing the number of stitches per inch. Thread tension can be relieved by setting the lightest bobbin tension possible, using a lubricated thread, polishing thread guides, and adjusting the feed timing. Uneven ply feeding, the major cause of seam puckering, can be decreased by using machines with material clampings, handling the material appropriately, and using machines with auxiliary top fees.
