The effects of water hardness, detergent type, and prewash products on methyl parathion residue in fabrics after laundering were measured. Anionic and nonionic detergents were used along with unfinished or repellent finished fabric finishes, a prewash product, and five levels of water hardness. The repellent finish was effective in limiting methyl parathion absorption. After laundering, residues were greater for soil-repellent finished fabrics. Water hardness had a negative effect on the retention of methyl parathion residue. Heavy duty liquid detergent was most effective on the residue. numerous refs.
