The ASTM F-23 Committee on Chemical Protective Clothing first established standards for chemical protective clothing in 1978. The committee later changed its name to the Committee on Protective Clothing and increased its scope to include other types of protective clothing. Subcommittees include Particulates, Physical Properties, Chemicals, Biological, End Item Performance, Human Factor(fit, comfort, etc.), Flame and Thermal Materials, Education, Symposia, and Planning. The main factors influencing the development of future standards for protective clothing will include the increasing sophistication of customers, government regulations delineating minimal performance standards, and trends in product liability laws. 4 refs.
