Tests at the Swiss Institute for Materials Testing (EMPA), have confirmed that the use of DuPont's Teflon brand PTFE fibre in patented BlisterGuard socks minimizes shoe-rub, greatly reducing the formation of blisters and calluses, and contributing to improvements in athletic performance and comfort. Incorporated during the knitting of the toe, heel and pad areas, the Teflon fibres in the socks impart a low-friction value to these contact areas. The method for calculating the frictional value of the modified socks is based on a simulation of the biomechanical behavior; weight/pressure, stress frequency, that takes place during walking. The final goal of the tests is to determine the ideal low-friction mixture and method of knitting for each type of sock.
