A survey of some new fabrics for safety and protective garments. SuperFabric (TM) created by Higher Dimension Research (HDM) Inc., of St. Paul, Minn, can be made into gloves which protect hands from needle sticks. TurtleSkin (TM) patented by Warwick Mills Inc., New Ipswich, N.H., consists of tightly woven fibres of Kevlar (R), Vectran (R)and Spectra (R). HydroWeave(TM) by AquaTex Industries Inc., Huntsville, Ala., contains water retaining fibres which stay cool whilst keeping the wearer dry. HYBOAR is a new hybrid body armour for improved ballistics protection and PECS combats heat stress. Both have been developed at Triangle Research and Development Corporation. R.Star, Vaulx-en-Velin, France have created a new anti-static and anti-bacterial fabric which as copper in corporated into the fibres.
