A brief review of protective clothing in the European Union is presented and developments in the United States and Western Europe are reviewed. Clothing affording protection against chemicals is examined. Fabrics used in the production of this clothing are discussed, e.g. Tyvek, Nomex, Kevlar, Saran, Barricade) are briefly looked at. Polish standards relating to this type of protective clothing are listed. The clothing studied protects against chemicals in solid, liquid and gaseous form.
