Infineon Technologies’s thermoelectric generator silicon based chips are low cost, environmentally friendly devices that generate power from body heat. Thermogenerators integrated into fabric with water resistant encapsulation feature small copper plates placed at the warm and cold ends of a thermocouple for connection to outside monitoring devices; silver or gold plating to avoid skin irritation and discoloration; and a buffer capacitor for storing energy. Thermogenerators have applications in wristwatches that dissipate 1-10 microwatts of power; medical sensors that require 100-300 microwatts of power to measure temperature, dampness, or heart rate; data transmission to remote monitoring devices; and powering hearing aids.
