This paper, presented to the Textile Research Symposium at Mt Fuji, focuses on the use of fibre optic sensors to produce ‘smart clothing’. It presents a systematic study of reflective spectra and polarization behaviour of fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) which are subject to various modes of deformation, ie. tension, and lateral compression.
