Heinsco Limited recently developed Unifibre, a fiber reinforcement sheet based on tows. during fabrication, epoxy coated high tenacity polyester yarns--called tramp yarns--bind the tows into a thermally cured sheet. Because the spacing between the tramp yarns averages 200 centimeters, the tramp yarns represent only 0.3 percent of the total weight of the reinforcing sheet. The United Kingdom based company claims that layers of Unifibre can be bonded with moderate pressure and preformed for resin transfer molding, a technique that produces composites with an extremely high fiber content(in some cases, as high as 65 percent). Heinsco manufactures Unifibre in biaxial, trizxial, and quadriaxial versions. Widths range from 50 millimeters to 1.25 meters.
