Breakthrough in Mass Production of Composites.

Cambridge Consultants (CCL), a United Kingdom based manufacturer of resin based reinforced composites, recently introduced a range of equipment for the mass production of three dimensional preforms from a variety of fibers. The new process, the details of which CCL has not yet released, facilitates different preform shapes that are reinforced by continuous filament yarns aligned in ay direction. CCL claims that its new process substantially reduces the unit cost of mass produced, resin injected composites. A glass fiber reinforced plastic access cover for gasoline station pumps, released as the first commercial product fabricated by the CCL process, weighs only 25 kilograms but withstands applied loads of more than 30 metric tons.
