Physical Properties of Electron Irradiated Hybrid Epoxy Composites.

Experiments determined the radiation effects in five epoxy composites reinforced with glass, carbon, or aramide fiber. An electron beam irradiated the samples at room temperature. The composites exhibited a small improvement in mechanical strength, a significant increase in microhardness, and an increase in the glass transition temperature. Only negligible changes occurred in microstructure and resistivity. 25 refs.
